Four years ago, when I was just starting to write on the internet, I was obsessed with searching for writing tips. I always wanted to get rich just by writing; I wanted to make a living from it.

I saw many “writing gurus” giving advice to their readers. They shared their success stories about using Writing Style A instead of Writing Style B.

Some even threw negative comments at other writers who used writing styles that didn’t work for them.

I remember one time I watched a YouTube video about how to grow as a new writer. The creator said I should write formally, provide facts, data, and statistics to build credibility.

I finished the video and watched another one from a different person. He said I should write like I’m telling a story, make it conversational, and avoid being formal to connect with readers and prevent them from feeling bored while reading my blog.

It was a complete mess.

I felt lost.

They all gave contradicting advice, and this constant “learning” was slowing me down. I felt like I wasn’t learning anything and was just stopping myself from growing.

One day, I decided to do something different. I opened my laptop and started writing the thoughts and ideas I had on a certain topic.

Surprisingly, I wrote a 500-word blog easily without overthinking my writing style or content.

That day, I knew something was about to change.

I realized I was obsessed with “doing it right” without understanding that writing isn’t about making it perfect.

I learned that the best writers don’t follow a formula to make money from writing.

Their secret is developing their own voice and writing style to connect with readers.

It’s not about consuming more writing tips; it’s about reading and writing more content.

Try writing more on your own without overthinking it. Just write your ideas, and your writing style will follow.

Write based on how you want to write, not how Writer A writes.

Here’s what I do instead:

  1. Write consistently – By writing more blog posts, you can start growing your blog easily. You will also learn which writing style works best for you.
  2. Read more – This doesn’t mean reading more writing tips but reading different content from different writers.
  3. Experiment – Many writers have different writing styles. You can try different approaches and do them consistently. If one works, great! If not, try another.
  4. Just write – This helped me find my own voice in writing. I just write what I want and edit the parts that don’t seem right later. Start writing in front of your screen and let your ideas flow. This website app actually helped me to “just write.”

Remember, every writer is made through experience, not by following endless advice. Something worked for them because they found it effective for their own writing style.

If you feel stuck, stop overthinking and just write. Try different things, and your voice will follow. There is no secret formula to becoming successful – the best approach is to explore and experiment.
